I'd stick to a 317 source if you're just getting started 

What Revision were you wanting to learn on? 317 is the easiest.

definitely a simple 317 - try looking for maybe an elvarg as most of the naming is much better client sided

Elvarg is a good source to mess around with

In my opinion, if you're getting 'started' in terms of becoming better as a developer.. then, start where you are. If you are referring in terms of how the systems function, how you can do specifics, etc.. BUT.. 

 

If you master the first the rewards are limitless.

Start with learning Java! Understand how object oriented programming works.

Start with a PI base. Super easy to get started and understand. Learn Java fundamentals.

I'd suggest 317 ruse. Good luck.
