Hey guys,

 

 

This week brings a huge update to the combat system, particularly relating to accuracy formulas. We've also fixed Dharok's armour set effect which should bring out more players into Edgeville, as well as a whole bunch of other fixes and updates to make sure our combat is top tier. Additionally, we've added the long awaited Instanced bossing update! You and your clan can now share a private room to boss in peace.

 

 

EDIT: The Bandos godwars instance is currently bugged, so make sure to not enter that one until the next update.

  • Boss Instance system:
    • The highly anticipated Instancing system is now available!
      • We've put it out with a limited selection of bosses for testing purposes, and once we're confident things are working as intended, we'll roll out more instancing options.
        • With this update, you'll be able to create a private room for select bosses, only accessible by you and members in your clan.
    • Features:
      • Clan-based
        • You can control who can or can't join
        • Clan notifications(broadcasts):
          • When the instance is created and/or expires
          • When a new member joins the instance
        • Multiple instances can be active for the same clan
      • Visual timer interface in top-left corner
      • Cost reductions for donators:
        • 25% for Uber
        • 20% for Legendary
        • 16% for Extreme
        • 14% for Super
        • 10% for Regular
      • Available instances:
        • Bandos GWD room:
          • Cost: 5m GP for 60 minutes
        • Saradomin GWD room:
          • Cost: 5m GP for 60 minutes
        • Armadyl GWD room:
          • Cost: 5m GP for 60 minutes
        • Zamorak GWD room:
          • Cost: 4m GP for 60 minutes
      • Instances coming soon:
        • Corporeal beast, and whichever other bosses the community suggests!
      • Instances typically last 60 minutes.
        • Once the 60 minutes is up, there will be a 2 minute grace period in which you can remain in the instance.
          • During these 2 minutes, enemies will not respawn.
    • Notes:
      • Enemies will respawn at the same rate as usual within this room
      • You may re-enter and leave the instance.
      • The owner of the instance does not need to be online for others to join or for the instance to be active.
      • If you drop items and/or lose them on death, you can re-enter to retrieve them *as long as the instance is still active*.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Slayer's enchantments are now stackable as intended.
    • You can now drink regular Combat potions.
    • Item fixes:
      • "Crate with Zanik" item animations added.
      • Heavy casket animations fixed
      • Nunchaku animations fixed
      • Katana animations fixed
      • Black partyhat is now tradable.
      • Easter basket now has proper animations and is tradable.
      • Grain is now equippable as a cape rather than a weapon.
      • Right eye patch is now equippable as a helmet rather than a weapon.
    • New "tips" added:
      • Wilderness slayer master tips (two variants)
    • Invisible staff members will no longer show up on the mini-map or in right-click options.
  • Zulrah updates:
    • Zulrah rotations added:
      • Proper rotations as described here have been added:
    • Zulrah is now much more powerful, as his attack and defense bonuses have been increased.
    • Cloud changes:
      • Clouds now follow rotations with the correct safezones as denoted in the above image.
    • Snakeling spawn changes:
      • Snakeling locations are now randomized
    • Animations were fixed (sometimes you wouldn't see the animation to go down or up)
  • Battle Royale F2P Option added:
    • Staff members can now host F2P only Battle Royale events!
      • Any players with members items will not be allowed to join if this option is on.
  • Combat overhaul:
    • Accuracy formula overhaul:
      • We've spent the past two weeks reworking our combat formula to ensure that it feels accurate to OSRS.
        • This includes:
          • Magic/Ranged/Melee accuracy and defence (your chance to hit)
          • Prayer bonuses to accuracy
          • Special attack accuracy
      • This update will make PvP feel much more realistic, as your chance to hit should be more similar to OSRS.
      • We've changed much of the formulas, but one thing you will definitely notice is an increase in Magic accuracy, especially for spells such as Teleblock, as well was an increase in the overall % hit chance.
    • Magic fixes:
      • Magic max hit fixed:
        • Magic damage was severely underpowered due to a bug not incorporating damage boosts properly which has been corrected.
      • Fixed experience drops:
        • Previous XP drops were incorrect -- Accurate exp drops will now show up even when you splash.
      • When being frozen/are frozen, your combat will only be cancelled if you cannot reach your target, rather than every time.
        • If your target is 1 step away or reachable with any combat style, you will keep attacking.
      • Toxic staff of the dead bonuses fixed
        • Magic attack bonus reduced from 25 to 17.
        • Defensive crush bonus increased from 2 to 3.
    • Tele block fixes:
      • Teleblock is highly more accurate now.
      • If you were teleblocked and tried to TB someone else, it wouldn't let you. This has been fixed.
      • You will now received a chatbox message when your TB wears off.
      • TB Immunity:
        • After your TB wears off, you will have 60 seconds of immunity during which you cannot be re-TB'd again.
          • This immunity does not save on logout, so if you relog during this 1 minute period you can be TB'd as usual.
      • Lever fix:
        • If you pulled a lever to teleport, it was still possible to be teleblocked during the action of pulling the lever.
          • From this point on, as soon as you pull the lever, you are essentially safe.
        • Pulling the lever while teleblocked will tell you how much time your tb still has before it fades away.
      • Client teleblock timer was a few seconds too short (causing you to believe your TB wore off sooner than it should).
      • If your target is already TBed or immune, you will no longer be able to cast the spell on them at all. (no animation or anything)
    • Autocast spell will now be removed when you die.
    • Combo rune deletion fixed:
      • Combo runes (eg. Mist) were not properly deleting when casting a spell. This has been fixed.
    • Runes were not refreshing in the inventory after being deleted either (normal runes) which has also been corrected.
    • Melee fixes:
      • Special attacks:
        • Zamorakian godsword:
          • Freeze timer was slightly too short. (20 seconds)
        • Dragon spear fix:
          • If a player spam clicked the map while being d speared, they would not move at all.
      • Attack distances fixed: (these apply to Player vs Monster as well (but not the other way around))
        • Attacking diagonally from 1 tile away will now be permitted.
        • "Orb walking" is now permitted. (Also important to PVMers as it allows you to attack while running towards your opponent)
          • Attacking from ~2 steps away while your opponent isn't moving will now be permitted.
        • You can now spec with a granite maul from 3 tiles away.
      • Dharoks's formula has been reworked:
        • You should now feel the DH pking is more realistic.
          • It is now possible to hit up to 100 in PvP with max melee, piety / strength potion and 1 hitpoint:
    • Ranged fixes:
      • Dark bow arrow projectile speeds have been fixed.
      • Heavy ballista bonuses fixed:
        • Ranged attack bonus from 120 -> 125
      • Broad bolts bonuses fixed.
        • Ranged strength bonus was incorrect for broad bolts.
    • General fixes:
      • Packet processing fixes:
        • Combat was being processed AFTER walking, while it is meant to be the other way around.
          • This will make hybridding feel much closer to how OSRS would.
      • Item equipping/unequipping bugs:
        • Previously, if you unequipped an item, it would stop your combat. This was incorrect and has been fixed.
        • Previously, if you equipped an item, it would stop your combat (as intended) but also your pathing which was incorrect.
      • Combined experience drops:
        • When performing a special attack with multiple hits, your XP drop will show for both hits combined.
          • Examples:
            • Dragon dagger / Abyssal dagger
            • Dark bow
              • This also applies to the Dark bow on regular (non-special) attacks
            • Dragon halberd / Crystal halberd
            • Magic shortbow
      • Saradomin sword special will now give Magic experience for the second hit
      • Following fixes:
        • You won't fall behind as often with Magic/Ranged styles
        • Following in Melee combat is now more fluid
      • Logging out during combat:
        • Previously, if you attacked somebody who never retaliated, you couldn't log out.
          • This is allowed on OSRS, so we have changed it so that the attacker can still log out as long as they haven't been attacked within the last 10 seconds.
      • Experience drops now limited to the victim's hitpoints:
        • If you hit a 20, but your victim only has 10 hitpoints, you will only get an experience drop for 10 damage.
      • This applies to all styles of combat.
    • Wilderness updates:
      • F-Keys QOL:
        • When clicking the "Restore defaults" button on the F-Key interface, you can now select which defaults you would like to set:
          • Pre-EoC Keybinds
          • OSRS Keybinds
      • Black chinchompa teleport moved a few steps west
        • Previously, you could easily get dragon speared a few tiles east into a multi-zone.

Hey guys,

 

Although we usually stick to updating on Friday/Saturday, we figured that these bug fixes were important to push out more quickly which is why we are updating in the middle of the week! Mostly PvP fixes to address the changes that were pushed last update, although it is important to keep in mind that while the new formulas are indeed quite different to the Alora combat system that you were used to, they are more similar to OSRS's overall and this is what we are going for. We'll have more updates coming in over the next few days, particularly bug fixes, and you should also keep your eye out for a development blog on a new skill that Alora doesn't have added yet ;)

 

[Updates]

  • Miscellaneous:
    • When pulling the Edgeville lever to enter the Wilderness, your character will now face the correct location (West rather than south-west).
    • Easter event has been removed.
    • Trading post bug fixed:
      • When clicking the "Buy all" option from the right-click menu, and then selecting "No" in the chatbox confirmation, it would still buy all.
        • This has been patched to cancel the purchase.
  • Combat fixes:
    • Attack distance increase:
      • The distance at which you can attack someone who isn't moving has increase by 1 tile
    • Special attack accuracy increases:
      • Godsword specials are now more accurate.
      • Saradomin sword specials are now more accurate
      • Heavy ballista special is now more accurate.
      • Armadyl crossbow special attack is now more accurate.
      • Dragon claws special attack is now more accurate.
      • Dark bow special attack is now more accurate.
    • Magic accuracy has been improved.
      • Essentially, the opponent's magic defence has been slightly reduced to make magic more accurate.
    • Dark bow special max hit has been changed:
      • Previously, it was possible to hit over 48-48 with the Dark bow special attack with all of the new damage boosts in OSRS (eg. Rigour + max = 54-54 possible)
        • It seems that OSRS puts a damage cap on the Dark bow now, making it so that it cannot go over 48-48 no matter what.
        • We have also added this damage cap to this special attack.
    • Fixed PvP experience drops
      • Sometimes it would show very high experience drops when in PVP combat, when it should be 1x to be similar to OSRS experience rates.
    • Diamond bolt special attack fix:
      • This bolt special will lower your opponent's defence by 75% when activated.
    • Granite maul special attack fixes:
      • Fixed bug that allowed attacks too quickly (not publicly known, but an important fix nonetheless)
      • Granite maul special was sometimes not registering when trying to combo on an opponent (Eg. Blitz->Gmaul spec->Ags)
    • Dragonfire shield bonuses fixed:
      • The bonuses on this shield were very over powered by default.
        • Although they were dependant on your # of dragonbreath charges, they started between +50 to +70, which was incorrect as this is what their fully charged bonuses should provide.
          • They should start with stats similar to Mithril square shield (+20) and go up to +50 more than that (+70) depending on the # of charges.
    • Dragon claws graphics and animation changed to OSRS:
      • We were previously using the 2010 animations as they appeared smoother, but in an effort to remain as oldschool as possible we have changed back to OSRS animations. This can be reverted if the community wishes so, but it seems that most people prefer OSRS animations.
  • Zulrah changes:
    • Zulrah's magic/ranged attacks will now be fully protected (0 damage) if you are using protection prayers against the respective style.
  • Looting bag fixed:
    • Previously, dying with a full looting bag AND full inventory would cause you to lose some of your items.
      • This is because the items lost on death were limited to 41 items (28 in inventory, 13 in equips).
        • This limit has been increased to 72 (28 in inventory, 28 in looting bag, 13 in equips, 3 in rune pouch)
          • No more items should be lost through looting bags from this point forward.

Hey guys,

As promised earlier this week, here's a bunch of request bug fixes and content additions! We've updated our cache to the latest OSRS version, which means we have access to things like the updated dungeons, and the brand new Skotos pet / Purple slayer helmet, which are in-game and obtainable as of this update! Additionally, some major combat bugs have been fixed, and we hope that this resolves most of the issues that were reported. Lastly, we've added in HD support for Mac OSX clients -- you can read more below.

[Updates]

  • Loaded latest OSRS data:
    • Saradomin god book (Holy book) colors have been changed from white to blue.
      • This recent update in OSRS was added to prevent confusion with the Book of Law, and to honour the original blue color of Saradomin.
    • Gilded boots have been given a trim to match the rest of the Gilded armour.
    • Ballista animation fix (see below)
    • New dungeons(see below)
    • Skotizo additions(see below)
  • New Dungeons and expansions:

    • Chasm of Fire:
      • A fiery trench with multiple levels of demons - lesser, greater and black, are now residing within the Chasm of Fire.
      • You can get here by teleporting through the Teleport Wizard in the "Dungeons" menu.
      • Lifts will take you up and down between the levels.
    • Nieve's new cave:
      • Nieve's cave has been completely redone!
        • You'll now find more spawns, and more room for monsters within the cave.
        • With this update, the following caves have been seperated from Nieve's cave: Kraken's area, Kalphite hive, Smoke Devil dungeon
    • Taverley dungeon expansion:
      • The Taverley dungeon now has an upper level, with plenty of Black dragons and Baby black dragons to slay!
    • Slayer Tower Basement:
      • The Slayer Tower now has a lower level - visit the basement to find plenty of creatures to slay.
    • Smoke devil dungeon:
      • The location and colors of the Smoke devil dungeon have changed, but everything else has remained the same.
      • The Smoke devil dungeon can now be accessed either south of Castle wars, or through the teleportation interface.
    • Kraken cave updated:
      • Kraken's cave has received a slight visual update.
      • Additionally, pockets of Waterfiends have been added to this cave.
  • Rare item announcements:
    • You will now see news messages for the following rare items that players receive:
      • Crystal chest:
      • Shooting stars:
      • Robin hood hats or Ranger boots loot
      • Fury (Shooting star) or Onyx (Crystal chest)
    • Mystery boxes:
    • Super Mystery boxes:
      • The following items will announce:
      • All Partyhats
      • Grain
      • Bunny ears

  • Combat fixes:
  • HUGE accuracy fix:
    • Without getting into too much detail, there was a major bug in the accuracy formula that affected most fights, but particularly those that were between players that weren't level 126.
  • PvP combat will now give 1x experience (same as OSRS) anywhere.
    • Previously, only Wilderness PvP would give 1x experience. Now, the following places will also be 1x:
      • Duel arena, Clan wars, Battle Royale, etc.
  • Ballista animation fixed:
    • The latest Ballista animation from OSRS has been added (slight change)
    • After firing with a Ballista, your player will now be "delayed" before you can run (similar to when casting barrage/blitz)
  • Toxic staff of the dead changes reverted:
    • Magic attack bonus changed back to +25 instead of +17.
    • On OSRS, it is +17 when empty and +25 when charged. Until we add charges to the TSOTD, we'll leave it at +25.
  • Miscellaneous:
  • Sled is now tradable.
  • Enchanting Jewelry will now give experience as intended.
  • Fixed bug that allowed players to leave the Pest control waiting boat.
  • Platinum token fix:
    • When converting your gold into platinum or vice versa, if you had a full inventory and tried to convert your new gold/platinum would dissapear. You will now not be allowed to convert if you don't have any space.
  • Wilderness travelling cape sellers now functional:
    • Neil in Bandit camp
    • Edward in Rogue camp
  • Ring of Life added:
  • The Ring of Life will teleport you to your home location if you ever drop below 10% of your maximum hitpoints
  • It will not work:
    • Above level 30 wilderness
    • If you're teleblocked
    • In any mini-games (Duel arena, fight caves, etc)
    • If you are jailed
    • If you are dead
  • The ring dissappears as it is used.
  • Defence cape effects:
  • The same effects as the Ring of Life, except that it does not disappear on use.
  • Pet changes:
  • You can now receive a pet even if your inventory is full and you already have a follower:
    • It will be added to your bank if possible, if not it will be placed on the ground.
  • Boss pet drops:
    • Boss pet drops will no longer drop on the floor, if possible, they will follow you immediately.
    • Boss pet drops will now announce to the world when a player receives them.
  • NPC changes:
  • Cyclops:
    • Proper attack/defence bonuses added.
    • Cyclops in the Kourend Catacombs will no longer drop Dragon defenders.
  • Brutal green dragons:
    • Proper attack/defence bonuses added.
  • Blue dragons:
    • Proper attack/defence bonuses added.
  • Waterfiends:
    • These will no longer attack you through walls.
  • Kraken:
    • Kraken attack, defend and death animations fixed.
  • Wilderness Slayer task fixes:
  • Bears task will now work.
    • "Bears" were assigned, and "Grizzly bears" were not being counted properly.
  • Bandits task can now be completed.
    • Bandits were previously unattackable.
    • Both the level 22 and level 138 versions can be attacked.
    • Additionally, "Speedy Keith", "Donny The Lad", "Black Heather", and "Guard Bandit" are all attackable.
    • These enemies also count towards your Bandit task.
  • Spider tasks now work.
  • Battle Royale changes:
  • F2P Mode:
  • You can no longer enter if your spellbook is Lunar or Ancient magicks.
  • You can no longer use Snare or Entangle within the arena.
  • Barrows data records:
  • Barrows completion count will now be recorded.
    • Your record will be recorded upon successfully defeating all 6 brothers.
  • Killtime for all 6 brothers will also be recorded.
    • This killtime will only be recorded if you defeat all brothers in succession without logging out.
  • [These records will be shown on the PvM Lectern at home]
  • Rainbow partyhat added:
  • You can now combine all of your partyhats to create a Rainbow partyhat!
  • Simply use one partyhat on another while holding all of them in your inventory.
  • This decision is final and cannot be reversed.
  • Rainbow partyhat is tradable. There is no other way to obtain this partyhat other than combining all 6 original partyhats!
  • Skotizo update:
  • Skotos pet can now be obtained!
    • Complete with full dialogues.
    • Speak to Probita to insure your Skotos.
  • Dark claw drop:
    • Combine the Dark claw with your Slayer helmet (regular or (i)) to create the Purple slayer helmet!
    • This is a cosmetic upgrade with no bonus changes.
  • Store changes:
  • New tabs added:
    • Pets tab:
    • Pets have been moved here. Ironmen can now purchase pets.
    • Baby vanguard reduced from 1500 to 1000 tokens.
    • Skotos pet can now be purchased for 750 tokens.
  • Rares tab:
    • Partyhat set added
    • 12000 tokens
  • Black partyhat added
    • 4500 tokens
  • Black santa hat added
    • 2500 tokens
  • Dragon defender is now available for 50 tokens
  • Ironmen can now buy cosmetics
  • This includes any item from the new Rares tab (partyhats/santa) as well as any item from the Pets tab
  • Alora OS X client for Macs
  • We've been working on a new client to fix the broken HD mode on Mac OSX, and we're pleased to announce that it is finally completed!
    • You can still use your old client to play, but you must use the new one if you want to turn on HD.
    • The new client will use your *integrated* graphics card by default, while the old one will use your discrete by default.

[HD on Mac tutorial]
Many OSX users have had trouble running Alora in HD on their Macs, so we decided to spend some time implementing the ability to run it with a few modifications.

Firstly, you’ll need to make sure Java 1.6 is downloaded and installed. You can download that here:

Once that’s downloaded and installed, replace your Alora client launcher with the MAC version:

Once that’s all done, run the latest launcher and you should be able to turn on the HD setting and enjoy it with everyone else!

Note: This also allows you to run your Mac with the integrated graphics card, rather than forcing discrete. If you do plan to use HD though, it will have to use your discrete graphics card.

*As a mac user, you can still use alora.jar OR alora_mac.jar. The difference is that you will likely have to run the Mac version (unless your Mac is ancient) to get HD working, and if you use the non-Mac version it will always force your discrete graphics card, while the Mac version will use the integrated for low definition graphics if not on OpenGL.
